The SA Olive Awards gives recognition to the top extra virgin olive oils of each year’s harvest. The competition is judged blindly by a panel of expert tasters from SA, led by an international panel leader.
SA Olive is an association representing the common interests of the South African olive industry. SA Olive members consist of olive growers, olive oil producers, table olive producers, tree nurseries and olive importers. SA Olive is committed to supporting a healthy future, i.e. ensuring a healthy future for its members, healthy growth and development for the industry and a healthy lifestyle for all South Africans.
The SA Olive Awards were created to honour the olive oil industry in South Africa. The competition will only accept registrations from entrants with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) produced in the current season exclusively. Entries must be 100% South African and made by South African producers registered with SA Olive. The entries can be either individual producers or by retailers selling EVOO from South African producers as their house brands.
I have been involved in the brand refreshment and project management for this competition since 2017. My role included the organising of the judging days, under the leadership of international panel leader, Sue Langstaff and the event planning of the annual awards gala event. During this period I have gained extensive knowledge of the olive oil industry and feel extremely passionate about the future of the South African olive oil industry not just in the local market but also internationally.
